Why are we different?

A Lactation Consultant can be referred to a specialist who assists with breastfeeding support. There are lactation consultants, lactation counselors, and lactation educators. Not all are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC). To obtain this credential, it is required to have several hours of practice, specific education, and to pass an international exam. Some IBCLC's have health backgrounds including registered nurses.

Registered Nurses (RN) who have experience in maternal/infant care are able to adequately assess the health of both mother and baby, identify what is not normal, and create a plan of care which aims to improve the breastfeeding outcomes and goals for the family.

• RN's have experience with caring for many families in the acute settings.

• RN's have the communication skills to collaborate with other providers such as the pediatricians and ob/gyn's.

Tina Rangel, RN IBCLC is a Registered Nurse and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She is a wife of  ten plus years and a mother of four happy, healthy children. Professional background includes past nursing experience in labor & delivery, after delivery care, nursery, nurse home visiting in public health, and lactation consulting. Provided  breastfeeding

 support and education to over 500 mothers.
